Abstract: 【Objective】This paper analyses the influences of agricultural machinery subsidy policy on China’s agricultural mechanisation, aiming to provide more specific and targeted references and suggestions for future policy adjustment and optimisation. 【Method】Based on the data of agricultural machinery subsidy, mechanisation development and rural income 31 provinces and autonomous regions of China over 2004—2019, Granger causality test is adopted to analyze the implementation forms, responses and effects of agricultural machinery subsidy in different regions. 【Results】1) There were regional differences in the policy response degree and actual effect of agricultural machinery subsidies. Agricultural machinery purchase were sensitive to the intensity of subsidy but not to the sum of it. 2) Agricultural machinery purchase has a certain feedback influence on agricultural machinery subsidy. 3) The central and western provinces were more sensitive to the intensity of subsidy. 【Conclusions】Subsidy policy should be implemented in a differentiated way, with subsidy for central and western provinces increased; transformation and upgrading of agricultural machinery industry should be actively stimulated.
