Abstract: 【Objective】To screen out the germplasm resources of Idesia polycarpa Maxim. with excellent characters, and to provide theoretical basis for the selection of parents and varieties of I. polycarpa.【Method】Using 373 germplasm resources of Idesia polycarpa collected as experimental materials, 29 phenotypic traits were identified and evaluated, and the genetic diversity, correlation, principal component analysis and cluster analysis were carried out.【Result】The results of variation analysis showed that the variation coefficients of leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, tree height, DBH and branch height in 373 germplasm of Idesia polycarpa were 17.31%, 17.62%, 29.26%, 42.49%, 42.37% and 5.68%, respectively. The coefficient of variation among the characters ranged from 0.84% to 42.49%, among which, the coefficient of variation of leaf length/width was the lowest, and the coefficient of variation of DBH was the highest. Correlation analysis showed that tree height was significantly positively correlated with DBH, whorled branches and branch height(P<0.01), and significantly negatively correlated with leaf length and petiole length(P<0.01). The correlation coefficients were as follows: DBH > leaf width > petiole length > whorl branches > branch height > number of lateral branches in the same year. The results of principal component analysis showed that the 29 traits could be classified into three principal components, namely leaf length, DBH and tree height, which indicated that leaf, plant and stem traits had a great influence on variety classification, and the cumulative contribution rate of the three traits was 63.37%. According to the phenotypic characteristics, the 373 germplasm could be grouped into 5 groups. Group I included 184 resources, with heart-shaped leaves, green leaves, heavily serrated leaf margins and fuzzy leaf bases, accounting for 49.33% of the total resources, while the other 4 groups had fewer resources. 【Conclusion】The genetic diversity of I. polycarpa germplasm traits is rich, and some excellent specific traits resources can be screened out, which can be used as parent materials in the breeding process.
